Biograpy


LEED Projects/Involvement:
Jim was principal designer of a series of green design demonstration projects including Sun Valley Branch Library (LEED Gold) and the Lake View Terrace Branch Library, a LEED Platinum and AIA/COTE Top Ten Green Building (while Vice President of Greenworks). Jim now provides technical, design and facilitation support to project teams interested in high
performance buildings. Recent LEED projects include Sempra Monterey Park (LEED Gold), Earthlink (LEED Gold), TreePeople Conference Center (LEED Gold), Los Angeles Regional Crime Lab, Goleta Water District Administration / Laboratory Building, the World Jewelry Center, the Empire Office building, and the Santa Barbara City College School of Media Arts.

Founding Co-Chair of the USGBC/Los Angeles

Personal Narrative:
Jim is Principal of Collaborative Project Consulting, a nationally recognized leader in creating and facilitating environmentally responsible design solutions that are integrated with client and community goals. He helps clients realize synergies between their goals and environmentally sound design and facilitates elegant solutions for resource-efficient construction.

Actively involved in sustainability efforts at regional and national levels for
many years, James received City Council Commendation for his contribution to the City of Los Angeles Sustainable Building Initiative.

He has been a practicing architect for more than 20 years and is a frequent educator, keynote speaker, workshop coordinator, and panelist on a variety of topics for groups including the American Library Association, UCLA, USC, UCSB, SCI-ARC, Association of Energy Engineers, American Solar Energy Society, the International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment, AIA, ASHRAE, CTAC, Energy Resource Center, and the USGBC. He is an original Instigator of the Greenbuild Slam.

James received his BA from Pitzer College in Economics, Fine Art and Environmental Studies. His Master of Architecture degree is from Rice University.
